What is a Death Doula?
A Death Doula provides non-medical ongoing support for a dying person and their loved ones. Doulas come in whenever the client is ready-- weeks, months, even sometimes a year before the death takes place. A doula can also work alongside hospice to ensure that a client’s wishes regarding their death are recognized and honored as best as they can be. They are not a replacement for hospice, as they cannot advise on medical needs or provide treatment, but they are able to assist with non-medical therapeutic needs, aid in finding help with activities of daily living (ADLs), and end-of-life planning.
While hospice takes care of your medical needs, a doula will be there for everything else-- including much-needed emotional support for you and your loved ones before, during, and after the death takes place.
